How to clean a Notebook

Cleaning your notebook is not only a matter of aesthetics, but a necessity for long lasting performance of the machine. But you should not do anyway. You must use the right products (see the last paragraph: "Recommended products"), which can be found in big supermarkets like home computer. Our tip: after cleaning the outside, may be tempted to clean the inside ... But do not risk, you run the risk of losing the benefit of the guarantee and also to damage components. Beyond the advice we give you then you should always carry the machine at least once a year to a specialist, you can clean the inside.

Stage 1: the optical drive

Turn on your notebook and go to Windows, as usual. Open the optical drive as if you were to add any disk. With canned air, spray a little air to remove dust and clean the laser lens. Attention! Do not touch the laser with your fingers or spray plastic spray. And do not pull air into the reader; this would push the dust into the background.

Stage 2: LCD display

Next step: turn off the notebook, unplug the power cord and remove the battery to prevent accidental starting during cleaning. To accomplish this we use the toel wet stage: classic cloth does not work, nor all that may prove corrosive (no acetone, no ethyl alcohol or ammonia, some plastic and glass cleaners can leave a coating that produces a reflection). Special towels for flat panel displays are the right product, but a cheaper option would be an anti-static microfiber cloth (do not use tissues or grids). If the screen is really dirty, just wet the cloth with a solution reserved for this use, and pass lightly over the surface of the screen, after checking that nothing on the cloth is in danger of scratching the surface.

Stage 3: the keyboard.

Very gently, we turn the notebook (with the display open, of course) and move it just a lateral movement to bring down the dust, ashes and all those tiny waste (bread crumbs, for example). Then we come back to support the unit on a flat surface. Use compressed air again, and applied at the interstices of the keyboard, to the sides or ends (to push the dust out of the team).
We always do it through a gentle spraying, keeping the spray head up. Then, on a lint-free cloth vaporize a bit of universal cleaner spray, or, alternatively, foam cleaning. Wipe the keys one by one, regularly moistened cloth. We must also clean the mouse touch the upper function keys and the part where the hands are supported.

Stage 4: housing

The last step is to clean the housing, i.e. the portable housing. A force to be carried and be opened and closed frequently is a part of the notebook that gets dirty easily, especially in its upper side, where there are always the fingerprints. This dirt can be cleaned, of course, with the same cleaner we use for the keyboard, always using a lint-free cloth. But the most practical solution (and thus cheapest) is to use a damp washcloth. A minimum review every day, and goodbye to the marks and dirt! The bottom of the notebook can also be cleaned quickly with a towel (do not insist too much on labels, not to launch).

Addition

Compressed air can be used to clean the fans, which are essential for the proper functioning of the machine. In all cases, the fans are on the side, rear, and / or under the laptop, but depending on model. Allow fans to circulate the airflow through the equipment, and thus keep it at a safe temperature. The accumulation of dirt in the vents impedes this process and as a result the machine can overheat.

Recommended products

A cleaning kit for LCD screen: This type of kit consists of a liquid spray cleaner and lint-free cloth number. The liquid is specially adapted for liquid crystal displays of laptops. You can also buy separately the two elements: the most important is that the label of the liquid is clear that "special for LCD screens." The price of this kit is not large, least of all when you consider it’s long-term

A can of compressed air is an aerosol containing air under pressure. The brand is not very important, nor the ability to spray, you can choose the cheaper model.

Cloth. Avoid: grids or cotton rags that tend to fray
