NVIDIA smartbook presented a prototype, a new category of laptops that favor access to broadband Internet and 3G gives total power to the computer graphics.

The change was radical. With a 8.9 inch screen, the smartbook weighs about 800 grams. Bring Tegra processor, NVidia's own, in addition to the arithmetic processor that performs graphics processing HD video.

This smartbook includes a SSD (solid disk) 16 GB and 256 MB of RAM and Windows CE operating system with a graphical interface amended so as to facilitate its use.

Despite little memory, nVidia smartbook is capable of playing high definition video (720 lines) to perfection. Navigation on the Internet that is stable and offers optimum signal reception.

What will impress the user is the battery life. NVidia says that, with only a three-cell battery, common in many netbooks, the smartbook can play up to ten consecutive hours of video or 25 days (yes, days) audio with the screen off.

How is this possible?

Because when the processor is used in full capacity, it consumes only 150 milliwatts.

A common processor netbook low energy consumption and the Tegra requires six times less energy to do the same. As the disc is SSD, having no moving mechanical parts, uses less energy.

The NVIDIA smartbook has two USB ports, an HDMI output (for connecting to a TV or HD monitor), headphone and microphone jacks, 802.11g Wi-Fi, memory card slot for SD, Bluetooth and 3G modem.

The device already is negotiating to be resold by cellular phone companies. Its price will vary depending on the plan chosen by the customer. No date set for the arrival of this device to Latin America, but is expected to arrive in late 2009.
